The ICC is linking up with Irish historian, Sean Murphy, to introduce our community to live, weekly online Irish history courses that will begin in September, presented online using Zoom. This course features a general history of each of the thirty two counties in Ireland. The course is divided into four-week modules. Students can enroll on a rolling basis for those parts of Irish history they are most interested in or have the time to participate in. The January module is The History of County Kerry. Thursdays from 6:00 – 7:30 pm / January 7, 14, 21 & 28.
The enrollment fee is $80 for each four-week course. Courses will be presented on Zoom using PowerPoint. Each student will receive an electronic copy of each presentation. The classes are one and a half hour long to allow adequate time for questions and answers. This free event will be broadcast on Zoom and Facebook live. It is sure to be an uplifting, enlightening and inspiring hour filled with stories, conversation and craic with one of Ireland’s most impressive public speakers. The ICC welcomes you to a night of Irish music and lore with our Fulbright Scholar, Brigita Gallagher, and guests, at 7 pm on Monday, February 1. This hour-long Zoom event is free to all. Please register here so we may contact you with the link to view the event.
Gallagher, an accomplished violinist, will perform traditional Irish music, interspersed with information about her craft and the tradition of Irish music. This event will also feature two musical guests – local flute player Ellen Redman, a regular performer at the Wednesday night seisiún at the ICC, and professional Irish pianist and native Irish speaker Hannah Fitzgerald of Midleton, County Cork. Lá na Gaeilge will take place on Zoom on Saturday, May 1, and will be hosted by Irish Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant, Brigita Gallagher, and Irish language instructor Gerald Costello. Both are teaching this year’s Irish language classes for the Irish Cultural Center and Elms College. The program is free, but registration is required.

Although we cannot gather in person this year, we are very excited to celebrate virtually with all of you and our wonderful guests. We will be joined by some great talent centered around the theme Voices from Cork – it’s going to be a wonderful morning of appreciation of the Irish language and music.
SCHEDULE
9:00 am – Readings of selected works in Irish and English, and discussion with bilingual poet Siobhán Ní Dhomhnaill.
10:00 am – Traditional Irish music with Clíona Halley and Darragh Carey-Kennedy.
11:00 am – Presentation by UCC Professor Ríona Ní Churtáin on poet Seán Ó Ríordáin, plus new translations of a few Ó Ríordáin poems read by poet Greg Delanty and UCC Professor Aidan Doyle.
There will be two approximately 15–20 minute breaks in between presenters.
