Four members of the Irish Parliament visited the Irish Cultural Center of Western New England on Thursday, December 6, 2018. In attendance were four of Ireland’s governing body Teachta Dála (TD), including Senator Billy Lawless, and three TD members, Brendan Smith, chair of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense, Niall Collins, and Seán Crowe.

ICC President Sean Cahillane and Executive Director Bo Sullivan hosted the visit. Co-hosts were Shane Cahill, Consul General of Ireland in Boston, and Aoife Budd, Vice Consul General. Invited guests included West Springfield Mayor William Reichelt and former Mayor Edward Sullivan, who is chair of the Sister City Committee with Dingle, Ireland, along with other local dignitaries.

The visit began with a tour of the ICC, which is in the midst of ongoing renovations inside and out. Informal discussions took place between the Irish visitors and the West Springfield officials, including officers, board members and Patrons from the ICC. A panel discussion on “Ireland in the World” began at 11:15, followed by lunch in the ICC’s Irish House Restaurant and Trinity Pub.

ICC President Sean Cahillane said the ICC is honored to continue to host prominent members of the Irish Government. “Western New England has a large, successful and robust Irish community. The Irish government recognizes this fact, which is the prime reason our regional communities are now being frequently visited in conjunction with visits to larger metropolitan areas like Boston, New York and Washington DC.”

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday donate

The Irish Cultural Center is participating in Giving Tuesday this November 27, 2018! This global movement of generosity allows non-profits to join together and raise funds for the causes that matter to them. Please consider making a tax-deductible, year-end donation to the ICC on November 27. The ICC is a non-profit charitable organization that has been recognized by the IRS as tax exempt, under Section 501(c)(3).

We have settled in to our new home at 429 Morgan Road in West Springfield, MA. The facility enables the ICC to establish a place to gather, providing an even broader range of cultural offerings. It includes a library/museum, meeting areas, the traditional Irish House Restaurant and Trinity Pub, patio, landscaped grounds and athletic fields for rugby and soccer.

Renovations are continuing over the next year, and include the completion of our performance center and banquet hall. We continue moving forward, expanding our cultural event offerings and community outreach, thus fulfilling our promise of keeping the Irish arts and culture alive. The distinguishing characteristics of the ICC are our emphasis on cultural and educational programming. The ICC also serves as a bridge between the Irish government, the citizens of Ireland and the Western New England region.

This is the perfect opportunity to make a tax-deductible, year-end gift. Your donation on Giving Tuesday will add to our fundraising efforts for the refurbishment of the building and grounds and the expansion of our cultural offerings. Your support as a donor demonstrates that you are a person who has made a commitment to preserve, promote and cherish Irish culture and heritage.

We value your contribution of any amount. Thank you for your support!
