Musicians and Performers
Musicians will include the ICC’s own Ellen Redman on flute and John Tabb on button accordion, along with several of the seisiún members who have played for several years at our weekly traditional Irish music nights. The seisiún musicians will play a set put together especially for this night. Ellen teaches Irish flute and whistle at The Connecticut Academy of Irish Music and Smith College and is also a frequent guest host at local sessions. Ellen and John, along with Ellen’s husband David Clopp who plays guitar and bouzouki, lead the ICC’s music-themed Sights and Sounds Tour to Ireland.

Additional talent for the evening includes our Fulbright Scholar Brigita Gallagher, an accomplished violinist from Midleton, County Cork who is teaching the Irish language this year at Elms College. Also, Jane Ní Luasa, another Fulbright Scholar and native Irish speaker from Gougane Barra in the Múscraí Gaeltacht, County Cork who is teaching this year at the University of Montana. She will showcase her formidable Sean Nós singing skills in both Irish and English. Providing a recording from Ireland will be Siobhán Ní Dhomhnaill, a bilingual poet from Listowel, County Kerry. She will read from her works, which have been published to wide acclaim in Ireland, in both languages.

To round out the music from stateside will be ICC favorites The Healys and New Leaf. The Healys are Don and Sheila Healy on bodhrán, guitar and vocals, with grandson Charlie Bongiovi on bass and lead guitar. They are ever popular wherever they play, including at the ICC. New Leaf is John Tabb on button accordion, Kira Jewett on fiddle and Jim Bunting on guitar, vocals and bouzouki. Together they play traditional tunes with tight, driving rhythm, interspersed with Jim’s unique take on Ireland’s song repertoire.
